Owensboro Health System Healthplexes

Owensboro Healthplex exterior shot of Urgent care entrance-Healthcare Facility

Henderson, Kentucky

When Owensboro Health realized patients were traveling from around Kentucky to their Owensboro facility, they found a way to bring healthcare to their patients. The new facilities in Henderson, Madisonville, and Muhlenberg County, Kentucky support Owensboro Health’s mission to heal the sick and improve the health of the communities they serve by providing a wide range of outpatient services and convenient access to the care they need, when they need it.

The healthplex concept offers the convenience of getting outpatient healthcare services ranging from pediatrics to behavioral health in one central location. Services for the communities include primary care, urology, orthopedics, general surgery, cardiology, urgent care, and more.

The healthplexes were constructed for approximately $15 million each. The buildings are two-story steel structures with curtain wall facades and were designed for future additions. They are nearly identical in exterior appearance and interior layout with slight modifications for each program.

The three projects were designed and constructed simultaneously. The construction projects followed an integrated project delivery method where the contractor, design team, and owner all shared in the risks and rewards of the process. This allowed a fast track design process with real time budgeting and cost analysis. Using this method allowed the Owensboro Health to make informed decisions on building size, services, and systems while keeping the projects on budget and on schedule.
