“I enjoy everything about PEC… the people, the culture, the work we do, the services we provide, the results we achieve, and most of all, the clients we impact.”

Serving PEC Since: 1991

Education: Kansas State University, Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, 1991

Colby Community College, Associate of Science, Mathematics and Science, 1989

License(s): Professional Engineer – KS

Professional Societies & Associations: American Society of Civil Engineer, National Society of Professional Engineers

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I really enjoy golfing with a group of clients. We generally (always!) have a small wager involved that also includes bragging rights that last until we get out again.”

Fun Fact #2: “Growing up in Colby, Kansas, meant that you had to create your own fun sometimes. So when I was 10 years old, I started my own sign shop. The signs I made were plastic with a magnetic backing and painted raised letters. Local companies would buy them to stick on the sides of their vehicles for advertising.”

Fun Fact #3: “My engineering career actually began in 1981 while in high school. I worked for a small local firm, and my duties included plan production/drafting, field surveying, construction staking, inspection, and materials testing of asphalt, concrete and soils. The experience played a large role in helping me decide my future career even before my college days started.”

“This company has so many people that are passionate about its success. Once you’re inside, you immediately become immersed and want to be an integral piece of it. It’s never the same; we’re always changing and adapting to meet the needs of our customers and our markets. This makes for an interesting career— never a dull moment at PEC (despite what people say about engineers).”

Serving PEC Since: 2007

Education: Kansas State University, Bachelor of Science, Architectural Engineering, 2001

License(s): Professional Engineer – CA, CO, IA, IL, KS, KY, ND, NE, OH, RI

SDASSE, 6020 Certified Medical Gas Inspector, ASHRAE Healthcare Facility Design Professional

Professional Societies/Associations: Wichita ASHRAE Chapter, American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers, American Society of Plumbing Engineers

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I like to golf, exercise, spend time with the family, watch my kids’ activities (dance, volleyball, baseball, basketball, soccer, Cub Scouts and more), and do home renovation projects. I’m involved in coaching kids sports and enjoy motivating kids to improve and work hard.”

Fun Fact #2: “The running joke at PEC is about how old I am. Don’t let the gray hair fool you, I’m (old but) not that old. I had gray hair in high school. One of the people in my division indicated he thought I graduated from Kansas State in the 80s (it was 2001, thank you very much). Another person asked me how my daughter liked working at PEC (my sister-in-law works at PEC, and she’s not THAT much younger than I am).”

Fun Fact #3: “I grew up in a farming community, but not as a farmer. My dad really taught me about work ethic and giving your all in everything you do. Outworking all those farmers was hard! My first job was mowing lawns, followed up by several construction labor jobs in high school and college during the summer. I did a lot of odd jobs in college, everything from working at a tractor implement company, to assistant manager at a pizza place, to delivering and fixing appliances.”

“Returning to PEC in 2018 after working here in the 1990’s has been the most rewarding decision of my career. I love our culture and our commitment to continually enhance client satisfaction, quality, and professional development at all levels of our organization. And the best part… clients and colleagues. Few things are more rewarding than building new relationships and re-establishing old ones.”

Serving Industry Since: 1993

Education: Kansas University, Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, 1993

Professional Societies/Associations: National Society of Professional Engineers

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “With five kids, I’ve repeated the phrase… ‘There’s no such thing as a free cat!’ more times than I can count.”

Fun Fact #2: “Although I’m a remarkably terrible golfer I still love to play golf with clients gracious enough to join me.”

Fun Fact #3: “People would be surprised to know, I was once a certified protection dog decoy – the guy in the bite suit. Who’d want to do that, right?”

“Working at PEC is unlike any other company I have worked at before. That passion and commitment is infectious and makes it easy to come to work every day.”

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I love coaching my kids in baseball and basketball. Depending on the season, that can pretty much take up all of my spare time.”

Fun Fact #2: “My garage is my man-cave. I can routinely be found in the garage messing around with power tools, drinking a cold beer and watching a game on TV.”

Fun Fact #3: “Growing up, my world revolved around sports. I played them all, and was fortunate enough to continue playing in college.”

“PEC has talented engineers, designers, and support staff, making it a great place to work. More than anything, the people here truly want each other to succeed and are what make it so awesome. I’m happy to be a part of it.”

Serving PEC Since: 2005

Education: Kansas State University, Bachelor of Science, Civil Engineering, 2005

License(s): Professional Engineer – CO, KS, OK

Professional Societies/Associations: American Society of Civil Engineers, American Public Works Association, National Society of Professional Engineers

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I grew up in a 100+ year-old farm house in the country outside Bentley, Kansas. I made friends with the farmer that leased our land when I was 5 or 6 years old. I thought it was great because I got to “drive” a tractor. Just a few years later, he got free child labor – feeding cattle, baling hay and checking crops.”

Fun Fact #2: “I enjoy hiking, skiing and fishing trips to Colorado, golfing, woodworking and home improvement projects (on occasion). In our first house, I tiled our kitchen, dining room, and entry way in a weekend and I was sore for a week! I’ve hired out every other flooring project since.”

Fun Fact #3: “My wife’s name is Ashley and as anyone that has met her knows, I married up in every way imaginably. I met Ashley at K-State (Go Cats!) and we have four kids – Adler, Isabelle, James and Maggie.”

“PEC is known, by our clients and the communities we serve, for the quality of our designs. However, what’s truly amazing is how we continuously design that quality of experience from the inside out. Every single employee is a leader within our organization and has the ability to take ownership of designing a better PEC. That’s what makes PEC the place to be!”

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I spent the first 27 years of my life as a military dependent. I’ve lived in Delaware, Alaska, Missouri, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, California, Texas, Florida, Oregon, and Kansas. Of all the places I’ve lived, I’ve never felt more at home than when I am in the mountains of Colorado.”

Fun Fact #2: “I used to act on stage in community theatre with Shakespeare in the Park, Kechi Playhouse and Derby Community Theatre. Now I just love to attend shows with friends and family.”

Fun Fact #3: “I have been called a big mouth most of my life because of how much I love to talk, but most people don’t know that I can actually fit my entire fist in my mouth”

Fun Fact #4:  “I like to find two tracks or off-road trails and explore what’s left of the wilderness. I’ve only been chased off with a shotgun once.”

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “My favorite icebreaker question is asking someone what their most interesting or unique job has been over the course of their lifetime. In college, I was a bellringer. Think Quasimodo – a full-blown tower with 5 different bell tones. It was bittersweet in that I could choose to play whatever songs I preferred, however, the scheduled time of 6 am was difficult as a student.”

Fun Fact #2: “I’m a Euchre enthusiast and try to get a game going any chance I get. Got a deck of cards? Deal me in.”

Fun Fact #3: “My family means the world to me.”

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I drive a seven-seat SUV so that I can fulfill my duties as a soccer dad. We travel around the Midwest supporting our son’s teams for tournaments.”

Fun Fact #2: “I have an interesting palate of liked/disliked foods. I don’t like raw onions or peppers, coconut, bologna, Vienna sausages, or Spam. I like spicy food, sushi/sashimi, oysters, steak, and all seafood. Foods I’ve eaten which I thought were palatable, but many find grotesque are raw egg and quail egg yolk, chicken feet, beef and chicken liver, raw ground beef (family farm raised), mountain oysters, and chicken gizzards.”

Fun Fact #3: “At my first job, I worked for a neighbor couple that lived on three acres. They were meticulous about their lawn, trees, and decorations. One of my worst days on the job, I nicked the bark on a tree with the weed eater. You would have thought I physically hurt one of his children; he was so mad. So I got creative. The next time I nicked a tree, I glued dead leaves to the wounded area and he never discovered my creative disguise. If he did, I probably would have been fired.”

“I think the greatest satisfaction in this business is solving a problem that a client has struggled with for years.  By listening to their perspective and desired outcomes, we can find a creative way to apply our expertise in a manner that was previously unseen.”

Professional Societies/Associations: Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I claim to be a snowboarder and cyclist.  However, really I’m a dad that stays mostly busy watching my kids play soccer. When the kids aren’t on the soccer field, our family likes to ski and snowboard, camp, bike, and enjoy all the beauty the mountains have to offer.  If you ever see all of us on the couch at the same time, take a picture because it will probably be a long time before you ever see that again.”

Fun Fact #2: See Fun Fact #1. “When I’m not busy enjoying the family I would prefer to be on a bike trail or a ski mountain. Nothing refreshes the mind and reignites your energy more than being outside with friends chasing that adrenaline rush.”

Fun Fact #3: “Other than hoping to successfully raise two thoughtful, hard working and happy daughters; my goal in life is to spend retirement traveling to see the amazing landscapes and animals of the world – preferably biking, snowboarding and hiking wherever I am.”

The Fun Stuff

Fun Fact #1: “I was born in Hawaii and lived in Florida, Georgia, New Jersey and Virginia until the second grade when we moved to Colorado. I enjoyed camping, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, skiing, and off-roading with my sister and parents. I liked to build dams and bridges in the streams and enjoyed learning about geology and seeing how the mountains and valleys were formed. I was bit of a rockhound. I would find interesting rocks and pack them down mountain sides, sometimes several miles, to add to my collection.”

Fun Fact #2: “During high school, I worked for a bank in the Bookkeeping Department and Mail Room — boring. During the summer, I also worked building homes — that was so much better.”

Fun Fact #3: “One of my first cars, was a 1973 Plymouth Cuda. My friends and I created a Mopar club for Colorado Springs. We enjoyed souping up our cars, racing, and cruising Saturday nights.”
