Host to a large client base and many board-certified specialists, the Orthopaedic & Spine Center of the Rockies (OCR) recently opened a new facility in Greeley, CO to meet the growing demand. Since 1960, OCR has provided specialized orthopaedic care for patients in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nebraska. OCR has several locations with similar aesthetics, so design consistency was paramount for this project.

The HVAC design was highly coordinated with the architectural aspects of the building all while meeting the stringent requirements of a medical facility. The HVAC systems for the building consisted of Variable Air Volume (VAV) Roof Top Units (RTU) with hydronic reheat for the interior zones and a high efficiency boiler plant. The boiler plant is comprised of condensing boilers with variable speed pumps that are designed to ramp up and down with the building’s heating requirements. The electrical/low voltage design ensured standards were met according to the latest technologies and codes.

PEC worked closely with Infusion Architects and an interior designer to create a lighting design that met their design intent while still meeting energy standards and providing the functionality required by a medical services facility. PEC low voltage design team coordinated closely with OCR’s IT team to incorporate their standards into this new facility.

Structurally, the project had several features to work through. The slope of the site across the length of the building resulted in major retaining walls. In addition, the team worked with multiple roof elevations and designed with a multitude of materials through different parts of the building including concrete, masonry, steel, timber, and cold formed steel.

The state-of-the-art 46,934 SF clinic includes 35 exam rooms, 6 casting rooms, 6 physical therapy rooms, 5 hand procedure rooms, 3 x-ray rooms, a designated lab and EKG services room, a reception area, and offices. As the community continues to grow, the residents in Weld County now have access to all the benefits of the OCR Greeley Clinic.
