Ford Street Improvements

Project Profile

Valley Center, KS

Ford Street was an old and underdeveloped road for the growing community of Valley Center. The existing street lacked pedestrian connectivity, had severe drainage issues, and would not sustain the residential or commercial development of the surrounding area. The City partnered with KDOT, Sedgwick County, and Park City to create a corridor that would serve its residents for years to come.

Several PEC teams worked with the City to provide solutions for Ford Street. The survey team ensured that the roadway design was accurate and effective. The municipal transportation team created a design that improved the existing rural road with ditches to an urban section with new curb and gutter as well as storm sewer improvements. North Seneca, north of Ford Street, was also realigned for vehicular safety at the intersection. Utility adjustments and relocations were provided by the municipal team for any direct conflicts impacted by the road and storm sewer project. Working in conjunction with Sedgwick County, PEC inspection and materials testing teams provided their expertise to bring the vision to life once the design was finalized.

Pedestrians and drivers can now travel on Ford Street safely and efficiently. With these improvements, Valley Center is set up for an improved infrastructure around the adjacent development and in the future.
