Love Family Women’s Center at Mercy Hospital

Project Profile

Oklahoma City, OK

Fueled by a growing need for more space, updated technologies, and expanded services, Mercy Hospital sought a state-of-the-art facility to better serve Oklahoma City women and children.

PEC provided mechanical, electrical, and power engineering services for the $98 million project. Designed during the 2020 pandemic, the mechanical systems have air handling units operating in a pandemic mode, which means they bring in 100% fresh air to the occupants. The air is also exhausted out to prevent recirculation of any airborne viruses.

Due to the cutting-edge nature of the project, the electrical design also faced some challenges, including the coordination of technology and equipment. Between the mechanical connections, equipment within the rooms, and all the technology systems within the building, PEC prioritized working with Mercy staff members and the design team to ensure all areas functioned effectively.

The 175,000 SF center features 15 large delivery rooms, 7 antepartum rooms, 47 postpartum rooms, and 3 Cesarean section rooms with pre- and post- operative recovery rooms. In addition, it has support clinics (postpartum, outpatient, lactation), physical therapy rooms, and is connected to the neonatal ICU. The new obstetrics emergency room can receive patients 24/7 and is the first ER of its kind in Oklahoma City.
