Chickasaw Nation Medical Center Expansion

Project Profile

Ada, OK

The Chickasaw Nation Medical Center (CNMC) needed additional space to provide life-saving surgeries and procedures to its community. In February 2025, an expansion was completed that included six total operating rooms, a larger sterile processing department, remodeled preop and recovery space, and an upgraded endoscopy suite.

Balancing both code and owner requirements, PEC worked with the client to integrate expanded systems in existing spaces. The mechanical system was designed to maintain additional pressures, temperatures, and humidity controls. In addition, a dedicated air handling unit and desiccant dryer were installed to maintain the low temperature of the ORs as requested by the client. Further coordination was required to extend the existing med gas system to the new ORs and to meet plumbing requirements for the sterile processing department.

Fitting all necessary equipment into and rendering enough power from an existing electrical room for the electrical design was a challenge. One of the additions was an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) which draws large amounts of power but is crucial to the surgical environment. With the state-of-the-art equipment used, the designed system successfully houses an incredible number of circuits required for continuous use. PEC had to integrate all the existing technological systems with the equipment in the new spaces. Video integration required new data racks that had to be coordinated between the ORs and their servers. PEC also provided electrical and mechanical design for the administration building and the adjacent parking garage.

With it being the only facility that offers this type of care in the area, this expansion was critical to complete. CNMC is now better equipped to more effectively and efficiently serve the Chickasaw Nation people.
