Wally Smith Tennis Center
Ponca City High School’s athletic facilities received much-needed upgrades thanks to a recently passed bond issue. Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) provided electrical, mechanical, and structural engineering services on a revamped tennis facility to serve both the high school and the community at large.
This project was a combination of a new construction and renovation of the existing space. The Wally Smith Tennis Center saw the addition of four new tennis courts while refurbishing the nine existing courts. Lighting for the courts was reworked with new LED sports lighting. The current locker room was torn down, and a brand-new building was constructed to improve on-site amenities. This includes locker rooms for the student athletes, restrooms for patrons, and a concession stand. There is also a new 19-stall parking lot next to the complex.
The benefits for the community of Ponca City are numerous. These updated facilities make the school a more attractive location for larger competitions with updated facilities and the capacity to accommodate more spectators. It also helps to better tennis instruction and practice, improving the quality of its tennis program. The tennis courts are also open to the public, allowing the entire community to utilize the new facilities.
