Operating in multiple locations throughout Kansas and Missouri, Foley Equipment sells, services, and leases heavy construction equipment. As one of the largest Caterpillar equipment servicers, the company sought to add a Machine Rebuild Center in Kansas City where they could return machines to like new conditions wiht upgrades and full warranty.

The project consisted of remodeling an existing building into a 30,000 SF conditioned mechanical shop that features two 20’ x 20’ overhead doors, a 15-ton bridge crane, six new 7.5-ton bridge cranes, twelve new 3-ton jib cranes, and other shop equipment associated with the machine rebuild process. A new 2,500 SF storm shelter addition to the building allowed for a tool crib, bulk oil storage, compressor room, and electrical distribution equipment. The remodeled office area with mezzanine features men’s and women’s locker rooms, large training and break room area, open and enclosed office space, conference rooms, and separate dedicated electrical and mechanical rooms.

The structural design included a frame analysis to determine the required reinforcement of the existing columns and their associated foundations to support new jib and bridge cranes. The new addition was constructed as a hardened area that consisted of masonry walls and a precast hollowcore roof. A 3000A., 277/480V. electrical service was designed to accommodate the client’s goals for future growth and development. To meet energy requirements, LED lighting and controls were used as well as a plug load power control. The audio-visual system was designed to support the staff training space within the facility and to allow the client to host accessible trainings and meetings. Three 30-ton and one 20-ton horizontal discharge rooftop units were added to condition the facility along with redundant air compressors to provide compressed air throughout. Four new high efficiency split system condensing units and furnaces were provided for the office remodel.

With the renovation and addition, Foley Equipment’s new Machine Rebuild Center is more efficient, productive, and ready to support their service needs for years to come.
