Autodesk Tandem Work: Key Takeaways From AU 2025
Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) team members recently presented some of their cutting-edge work at Autodesk University 2025. The group was invited to discuss their work with digital twin technology provided by Autodesk Tandem.
Digital twin technology, a virtual replica of a facility or system that virtually updates with real-time data, is revolutionizing project delivery. Integrating all the intricate processes involved in building design into a completely digital format makes workflows more efficient, collaboration more streamlined, and eliminates tedious work. For clients and general contractors with a focus on innovation, digital twins are the future of collaboration.
Rather than handing over multiple spreadsheets and documents to facility owners, PEC can provide them with what Senior VDC Specialist Don VenJohn calls a single source of truth. “Now, we take the project to about 40% completion after design, and the general contractor enriches the digital twin with subcontractor data,” VenJohn said.
Having a single source of truth means all the data involved in a specific product lives in one place. Building out a single data-rich model enables multiple users to access the same information without requiring extra steps or duplicating work. Autodesk Tandem was a natural choice to help create digital twins as it seamlessly integrates into the Autodesk Construction Cloud.
As VenJohn describes it, using digital twins allow the data to make a round-trip from the original design back into a new design. “If we can provide a single source of truth, we’re not just delivering data – we’re building trust and strengthening relationships,” he said.
Looking towards the future, VenJohn images that, as AI becomes more integrated into the process, each deliverable will surpass the one before. With a focus on streamlining collaboration and enhancing efficiency, automation will play a more significant role in the design process. PEC is proud to continue leading the way in these innovations.
