Construction Materials Testing: Value of integrity

The integrity of building materials can determine the success of your project. Trust Professional Engineering Consultants, PA (PEC) to create the confidence you need.

Materials testing personnel at PEC know what is important to assure quality control on your project. Our materials testing team performs the tests essential for quality control associated with soils, aggregates, Portland Cement Concrete and asphaltic concrete.

Our laboratory technicians are experts and experienced with testing:

  • Soils: moisture content, plasticity index, moisture-density relationship, specific gravity, grain-size analysis, CBR, permeability test – falling and constant head, unconfined compressive strength, classification, one-dimensional consolidation/swell, direct shear, triaxial shear, in-place density and water content of soil by nuclear methods
  • Aggregate: sand equivalent, sieve analysis, specific gravity and absorption, organic impurities, magnesium/sodium sulfate soundness, L.A. abrasion, clay lumps and friable particles, freeze-thaw, alkali-silica reactivity (ASR)
  • Asphalt: marshall design mix preparation
  • Concrete, CMU and Brick, Mortar/Grout: field and laboratory testing, mix design
  • Floor Flatness
  • Fireproofing: thickness, density, adhesion/cohesion
  • Laboratory Verification Services: KDOT superpave ACC and quality control PCC laboratory verification

We even do non-destructive testing of structural steel, welding and bolted connections.

In other words, if you're building something with it, we can test it.

White-glove inspection—minus the white gloves

As an owner, contractor, or project designer, you know that adhering to materials specifications and the International Building Code (IBC) are essential steps to ensure your project's safety, structural integrity, and longevity.

Inspection—all types
Our inspectors can provide both periodic and continuous inspections. Whether you need verification of bearing capacity in footings, monitoring of concrete placement, or inspection of masonry or structural steel—our certified field staff is ready and able to do it.

Materials, soil and lab testing
We also do concrete, soil field and lab testing: lab testing of concrete/mortar/grout, and non-destructive testing of welds and bolted structural connections.

Credentials—we have several
We are inspected by the Cement and Concrete Reference Laboratory (CCRL) and are an approved laboratory for the Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials (AASHTO) accredits PEC Field Services through their materials reference laboratory (AMRL).  Plus, our inspections meet the requirements of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) checklist.

We'd like to be on your checklist, too.
