Oakland Park Aquatic Facility

Project Profile

Topeka, KS

When Shawnee County Parks & Recreation decided to replace the aging Oakland Park Pool, the goal was simple: create a place where the community could gather, play, and stay active. Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) helped bring that vision to life through a design-build partnership with Dondlinger Construction.

The project was first planned as a splash pad but after listening to residents during community meetings, the team learned that people wanted a full pool instead. Plans shifted quickly to a new design so construction could move forward, and the new facility could open in summer 2024.

Today, Oakland Park Pool offers fun for visitors of all ages. The facility includes a zero-depth entry pool, lap lanes, a lazy river, diving board, water slides, and interactive water features. Families can also enjoy shaded cabanas, a bathhouse, concessions, and comfortable gathering spaces throughout the site.

The pool opened in time for the final week of the swimming season and has become a popular community destination. By replacing a failing facility with a modern aquatic center, the project gives residents more opportunities to stay active, spend time together, and enjoy the outdoors. It also helps strengthen Oakland Park as a valued community asset for years to come.
