City of El Dorado Central Corridor Improvements
The City of El Dorado identified a need to address downtown flooding, aging infrastructure, and pedestrian safety on one of the town’s most important thoroughfares. In several locations, the corridor was still relying on storm and water infrastructure that was more than 100 years old. Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) joined the project to help create a plan that would make the community safer for businesses, drivers, and pedestrians.
PEC supported the efforts both in the field and by preparing plans and specifications. PEC Field Services conducted geotechnical studies, surveys, and materials testing. Design and construction support were crucial in meeting long-term goals for drainage, reliability, and maintaining operations in El Dorado’s vital downtown area.
The entire corridor was modernized to increase drainage and improve pedestrian safety. Key design features included a 6’x6′ reinforced concrete box storm sewer to alleviate chronic flooding, a new 16″ PVC water transmission main, and surface upgrades such as a 2″ asphalt overlay, ADA-compliant crossings, and curb bulb-outs to enhance pedestrian access and safety.
The Central Corridor now functions as needed during heavy rain events. Drivers have a smoother ride and consistent markings as they travel the street and pedestrians have less distance to cross in 2 locations and are more visible to drivers, making the street safer for all types of traffic. This project adds value to our partner community, making it a better place to live.
