Bruce Remsberg, PEC principal and Pittsburg Kansas Rotary volunteer has been a member of Rotary since 2001.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. The main objective is service in the community, in the workplace and throughout the world. Rotarians develop community service projects that address many of today's most critical issues, such as children at risk, poverty and hunger, the environment, illiteracy, and violence. They also support programs for youth, educational opportunities and international exchanges for students, teachers, other professionals, and vocational and career development. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self.”
Remsberg helps by doing a variety of volunteer tasks such as picking up recycling for those who can’t get around to the recycle center and volunteering at a local school.
“One thing we do is go to the Westside Elementary School and eat lunch with the kids. We do that once a month,” says Remsberg.
His favorite time of the year is to help around Christmas time—the season of giving.
Remsberg rings bells for the Salvation Army and helps seek out donations for the Presbyterian Church, but that’s not all.
“We helped with Christmas dinner and served 800 people on Christmas day. I enjoy getting together, seeing all the folks and learning about the community,“ says Remsberg.
