Colorado-Based Brewery Begins Expansion on New Space

Prost Brewing Company Begins Phase 1 of New Space

Colorado based biergarten coming to Northglenn

Prost Brewing Co. is planning to create its new “forever home” in Northglenn, CO. In a move to provide full-scale brewery production for their current and future needs, as well as a flagship biergarten, Prost will be taking over 72,000 SF of previously occupied retail space.

Professional Engineering Consultants has partnered with brewery architecture specialist, Hauck Architecture, to deliver mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural designs for the project. Beside their affinity to the local Prost location in Fort Collins, the PEC team is excited to be involved in the project due to the great team relationships and the robust engineering challenges.

One of the most significant constraints of the project is the aggressive timeline required to allow Prost to maintain their beer production commitments. PEC closely evaluated the existing site to determine a plan to utilize as much of the existing mechanical and electrical systems as possible to avoid the current exorbitant lead times for new equipment. It was a feat of balance, coordination, and ingenuity to reach a functional design considering the major mechanical and electrical loads created by the brewery process equipment.

PEC’s structural team was challenged with converting a space that previously housed clothing and housewares to a facility prepared for supporting fermentation tanks holding anywhere from 3,000 to 10,800 gallons each. The new space also includes multiple mezzanine levels to support spaces including a high-end conference room, brewery laboratory, open fermentation chamber, and grain milling and conveyance. Other design considerations included the concentrated structural loads from heavily-loaded forklifts moving keg-filled pallets from the kegging line to the 10,000 SF cold storage locker within the facility.

Permit drawings have been submitted for Phase 1 and demolition has already begun. Colorado-based contractor HIVE Construction is leading the construction team and already off to a great start. PEC is excited to have added another project that meets many of the company’s core values including:

  • I Love My Work
  • Add Value Every Day
  • Do The Right Thing
  • Energizing
