| CITY OF NEWTON, KANSAS AIRPORT IMPROVEMENTS The completion of the Newton City-County Airport Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan led the way for numerous improvements at the high quality satellite/reliever airport. The airport is a converted United States Navy Auxiliary Training Field consisting of a 7,000-foot runway and wide parallel taxiways. A rubberized asphalt overlay on the 7,000-foot by 150-foot Runway 17-35 was applied to reduce the amount of reflective cracking. PEC also designed Runway 8-26 and related paving improvements. Both runway projects, in addition to design, required construction surveys, materials testing, soils consultation and resident engineering services. Improvements outlined in the Master Plan Update include a new terminal building, paving overlays, crosswind runway, REIL/MIRL lighting, T-hangars and air cargo facilities. |
