The Geotechnical Engineering Division has what it takes to give you a sound footing for your project. Our geotechnical engineers and technicians have the in-house resources necessary to produce accurate data on time. By exploring sites with our own drill rigs and applying the current technology for soils testing in our certified lab, PEC delivers timely information for the most demanding projects.
Clients soon come to recognize the quality produced by this complete project capability and attention to detail. Reports arrive on time. They are clear, concise and straightforward. For more than 30 years, our geotechnical reports have served the needs of our clients.
PEC drilling equipment brings flexibility to site exploration. Two rigs work in field exploration on a wide range of projects.
The B-31 trailer-mounted mobile drill is available for continuous-flight auger borings in four- or six-inch diameters and four-inch IO hollow-stem drilling to depths of 50 feet. The rig maneuvers in close, confined areas and on sites with low overhead clearance. Drilling can be performed without raising the mast.
The B-53 truck-mounted rig is used for deeper explorations and for installation of monitoring wells for environmental projects. Borings reach to depths of 100 feet and more, with several sizes of continuous-flight and hollow-stem augers. The rig also performs Nx boring of bedrock. Updating of technology is continual, as PEC adapts to ever-advancing testing methods:
• foundations soils
• triaxial shear and permeability
• direct shear
• field CBR (performed by a limited number of companies in the United States)
• environmental drilling
• field drilling
• field soil percolation tests
